Best blank hoodie for printing and embroidery

For most jobs, the Fruit of the Loom Classic Hooded Sweat is the best blank hoodie for printing: a unisex hoodie at 260–280 g/m² in 80% cotton and 20% polyester that the manufacturer itself describes as made for printing. If you want a zip, choose the Classic Hooded Sweat Jacket. For a light hoodie choose the Lightweight Hooded Sweat, and for an extra heavy one choose the Supercotton.

Here we compare the five Fruit of the Loom styles we print and embroider on, by weight, hood and drawcord, zip and suitability for embroidery. Marmalade Co. is an official, authorised Fruit of the Loom retailer.

Classic Hooded Sweat: the safe choice

The Classic Hooded Sweat has a clean front and back with no zip, so there is room for a large print on both the chest and the back. The hood is roomy and has a drawcord in adult sizes. XS has no drawcord and equals a kids' size 152.

It suits clubs, events, staff and merchandise where many people need the same hoodie, and it comes in the most colours of our hoodies.

Zip hoodie: print on the back, logo on the chest

The Classic Hooded Sweat Jacket has the same weight and fabric as the Classic Hooded Sweat, with a zip at the front. Fruit of the Loom uses a covered metal zip, which it says makes the jacket easier to print.

Because the zip splits the front, large designs go on the back. On the chest, a smaller logo on one side works well, printed or embroidered.

Light or heavy: Lightweight and Supercotton

The Lightweight Hooded Sweat weighs 240 g/m² and is a non-brushed sweat fabric with raglan sleeves, a hood with drawcord and a kangaroo pocket. It suits spring and summer, outdoor events and layering under a jacket.

The Supercotton Hooded Sweat is the heaviest at 400–405 g/m², with soft brushed fleece inside. It suits workwear and hoodies that have to stand up to heavy use.

Premium Sweat Jacket: when you do not want a hood

The Premium Sweat Jacket is a sweat jacket without a hood at 260–280 g/m², with a covered metal zip and two pockets. Its smooth surface takes a print well, and it looks smart for staff, shops and offices.

Which hoodie is best for embroidery?

Embroidery suits a logo or short text on the chest and is hard-wearing. For an embroidered hoodie, one of the heavier styles such as the Supercotton or the Classic Hooded Sweat is a good choice. On zip styles, the embroidery goes on one side of the chest.

Large designs on the back are usually printed. Read more about custom embroidery, or see our printing page for methods and print positions.
